Vacation Brain

Things are moving sooooo sloooow today. Kurt is just now about to start treatment. Oh well -- by this time tomorrow, we will be in our rental car headed out to the Gulf Coast!! Can't wait. Even though we were just off work for Christmas, we are eager for another vacation :) DC is already a zoo, so we can't get out of town fast enough.

All is well on our end. The doctors affirmed again today how pleased they are with Kurt's progress and how well he is handling the chemo. We still don't know how long Kurt will have to undergo chemo, but this journey has been surprisingly manageable so far. We're very blessed -- every Friday as we sit in the waiting room, I see how difficult this battle can be, and I am so thankful for all that Kurt and I have in our favor.

Speaking of which, I'd like to ask all you prayer warriors out there to add someone special to your list. Some of you who have had the chance to come to treatment with Kurt have met Ella Mae, one of the greatest nurses here. She's not Kurt's nurse, but she looks out for us and is just a wonderful person. Ella Mae taught Kurt how to give himself shots (so she was the nurse Kurt was racing up to meet in October when he got in the car accident) and she spends time with us every Friday. Ella Mae just learned -- about an hour ago -- that her father has lung cancer and the prognosis is very bleak. So, lift her up in your prayers, please ... she means a lot to us.

Next post to come from the beach ;)

I'm glad things are going well this morning. I was thinking a lot about you two last night - much along the same line. About how well Kurt's doing with the chemo and the way you two are working through this. I was thinking back to the day we found out and the weeks that followed. Anyway, I won't rehash all that, but I want just want to keep repeating how much respect and admiration I have for both of you. The way you've dealt with all of this is indicative of the way you both live your lives. You dive in and experience it, you do what's right, you show compassion to others, you never stop learning and growing, and most of all you are there for each other. Throughout all of this, I see you both stepping up when the other one needs it and I think that's beautiful. You're going to get through this and be even stronger than before.
Have a wonderful time in Florida!

Hey Kurt and Jen, Give EllaMae a hug from me. I know how special she is to both of you. And, remember how special you two are to so many people. Last night Jack and I went in to the local high school basketball game: {a county rivalry reborn -- kurt}, Fort Benton is now class C and playing Geraldine! We knew most of the people that were there from Fort Benton, and spent much of the evening fielding questions and well wishes for you two from friends {and even people we barely know!} from both towns. Lots and lots of prayers have been going up and will continue to lift you up over the next weeks and months! The support has been such a blessing to us and has made us aware of how you've touched so many people during this journey. {Ditto Vicki's thots this morning.} Continue to give thanks for all the blessings you (and we) have received the past 4 1/2 months!

Enjoy the road trip this weekend!
