Fun fact: 'round about the 7th or 8th dose of oxaliplatin, many patients have an allergic reaction to the drug.
So, guess what just happened here, during Kurt's 7th cycle of chemo? Yup. No more oxaliplatin today. Not sure what this means for treatment going forward, but Kurt is fine now. He got a little flushed and a little queasy, but the nurses were right on top of it. Oxaliplatin is not the trial drug, but it is one of the parts of the chemo cocktail that he gets with the trial drug. Oxaliplatin is part of a class of drugs called "platinum drugs", so there may be other drugs they can substitute for it. I have been googling for the last couple of minutes to learn more, and it seems like the reaction can be managed with pre-meds. So we shall see.
Kurt is getting the rest of his treatment now, and is pretty loopy ... such adventures :)

Do they have any idea why this happens now? Is this something that stays with you and builds up in your body? How curious. Thanks for the update.

I'm not sure -- they mentioned something about cumulative effects of chemo, but it seems like this is just something that happens. Will be interesting to see what the docs say when we see them next.
Argh! I hope that gets better....yes we will all be wondering what the doctors say about the next treatment. For now - we will sure be praying for you.
