So as Jen's already mentioned, we got great news today! As the resident engineer in the family, here's the data: Liver metastases decreased in number and size, one liver lesion showed a 55% volume reduction, the lymph nodes are shrinking at an even greater rate, and there's no evidence that it's spread anywhere else. When we started this adventure our oncologist warned us that a measurable tumor response to the chemo only happened in about 40-60% of patients, depending on which protocol is used. This puts me in the percentile I need to be in! The doctors love to aggregate their patients into statistics, but I refuse to go there. One of my favorite bible verses is Psalm 91:7, a thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. This pretty much wraps up the way I feel about these statistics.
It's been hard for me today in my mind, as I've been under an onslaught of negative thoughts. These thoughts today have convinced me more than ever that satan is the one behind this disease, and that he is constantly trying to kill me. As an example, when the oncologist came up to go over the test results, one of the first thoughts to jump in my mind was that there's no reason to be excited when the tumors are still 3.6cm long and last time it was 4.7cm. Those kind of irrational negative thoughts were very present today. At dinner, Jen and I talked about it, and I finally gave up and asked God to take care of them. He did nearly immediately, and Jen and I have had a great night since.
So to continue the football analogy I started with the last scan, the opening drive of this game has ended in a touchdown! It's time to play some solid, aggressive defense to hold onto our lead, then get the ball back and take it to the house again!
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and well wishes today. Your support has meant the world to Jen and I, and we can't thank you all enough!

Keep up the great work Kurt. We are all rooting for you.
Great news! Congrats on the TD...on to the SuperBowl!!!!
How totally wonderful! Kurt you know how to make your Grandmother proud -- (but you also know how to cause me to have a meltdown, too). .. but that's OK. As you know, we(our family) are almost too emotional.
I am so very proud of you -- You must have some TEXAS blood in you, as you have taken the bull by the horns. & you won't let go until this ride is over.
Those negative thoughts will come, but we just replace (exchange) them with some good words of LIFE - Psa. 91 Psa. 37, 23, Many verses in the Proverbs, and read encouraging inspirational books, Divine Favor, God's Creative Power for Healing, & others. Keep feeding on the Good stuff - Being a computer person, you know Garbage in, Garbage out, etc. Read them over and over -- Kurt, I've been believing these things for more than thirty (Yes, 30)years and I'm not stopping now. You have to constantly guard your heart. It won't be long until it becomes a happy way of LIFE.
I love the football analogy, you know. You just keep making those touchdowns. This WAR requires your utmost attention - as a soldier, we never can slack off. WE fight until we win. I've never liked that phrase (it's how we play the game) I know how competetive you are , Kurt and I know that you want to WIN, so Carry On, My friend. We have a few more TD's to execute. God Bless You -- I'm here cheering you on - We're Winning, PTL!

Kurt and Jennifer,
We are so happy to hear of this good news. Having been there with breast cancer I understand. That year I thought summer would never come -- and here we are six years later!! You know that St. Andrew Lutheran Church is praying for you. Someone named Chandra has put the bug in everyone's ear!! We do praise God and know that he has his arms wrapped around you and his wishes will prevail. Ruth Pfaff
Today's scripture: When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. Mark 4:15.
That is why you had those doubts yesterday, after receiving your good report. IMMEDIATELY the enemy comes to take away the glad news.
Remember: "there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1:9
satan has only one bag of tricks and he uses them over and over.
You did exactly the right thing, to go immediately to the Father and his Word for help, and of course, He answered!
Love ya!
Karla
You are both so inspirational! Keep the fight, faith, and all the other f-words to the cancer!!!!!! hee hee love you lots!
So glad to hear the good news! Those suckers will be down to 0.000 in no time!
We're continuing to pray for you and miss you both,
Mara, Paul and Mia (who's walking now)
Thats great news Kurt...keep on fighting.
Well that is really great news that things are going good and that those tumors are shrinking away.
Keep up the good fight and know all those pesky relatives still out here in Colorado are cheering for you.
Uncle Steve and Aunt Sandy.
This is Judy and Mike Jeffers writing. Our great gradson Malakai has had neuro blastoma for a year and a half. He was 3 years old the day after Christmas. He is still not in remission and is in hospital right now having all kinds of tests - AGAIN!! But we refuse to give up and pray, pray, pray, as we do for you Kurt and prayers for you too Jennifer. We know God is with us and his arms are around Malakai and you too Kurt. We won't stop praying till you and Malakai are healed and we believe you both will be. Praise the Lord.
