Fun day Friday

If the dry heaves are considered fun...

Jen's post didn't quite get the whole story. About a half hour after I started getting the oxaliplatin, I felt a little flushed and had a scratch in my lungs. I didn't think much of it then, and toughed it out for about another half hour. I got up to go to the bathroom, and just about woofed my cookies. I called the nurse over and she stopped the chemo right away, and told us that this reaction was relatively common at about cycle 7 of the oxali. She gave me some kick-ass anti nausea drugs that worked right away, and then a bunch of benadryl and zantac. That knocked me out straight away. About two hours later I woke up and had to pee again, so I headed for the bathroom. No sooner did I get there and I started with the heaves. From there, none of the anti-nausea drugs had much of an effect, so pretty much every time I got up to move around I ended up heaving. On the way out the door, in the basement parking lot, at home, fun stuff. We had another pill at home that did work, and I spent most of the night asleep sans heaves. By about 10pm all was back to normal, and I had a few saltines for supper. By Saturday morning all was well and we were on the plane to sunny, not-so-warm Tampa.

Our condo is fantastic. We're right on the beach on the third floor, so the view is great! we can sit on our balcony and watch the sunsets on the gulf, which are awesome. It's so nice to be out of DC and away from the cluster that it is right now. We're amazed at how many other DC transplants we're hearing about down here - we're definitely not alone! We've had a great time with one of our friends down here. Karl knows all the best dive bars on this stretch, and believe me, the entertainment value is priceless! I think today we're going to rent a boat for the afternoon and tool around in the bay. Should be fun!

Thanks again for all the prayers and support!
