Ok, good news first -- and this is some VERY good news:
Kurt went in for a CT scan today in advance of his clinical trial and the scan today looked just the same as it did when he was first diagnosed. We are feeling a tremendous sense of relief that during this seemingly endless waiting period, there has been no growth in the tumors. Yay!
And for the not-so-good news:
The scan also showed two blood clots in Kurt's lungs. Hopkins asked him to come back up today to be trained on how to take the blood thinners, and on his way up there, a car rear-ended him! Kurt's ok -- just a little sore. The car is a little beat up, but not unfixable. The wreck could have been much more serious, so Thank GOD for the guardian angels looking out for Kurt today.
Anyhow, Kurt is now on blood thinners until the clots clear up. Apparently, cancer patients are at a higher risk for blood clots -- there doesn't seem to be an explanation why. For the first couple of days, the blood thinners are given by injection twice a day. Kurt gives himself the shot -- you should have seen him with the nurse today!! He just grabbed that needle and stuck himself right in the stomach, like it was nothing! What a stud :)

So grateful to hear that the CT scan looks the same, that the blood clots were detected, that Kurt is okay with giving himself the shots, that Kurt could walk away from the accident, that he's able to be treated at the best facility in the US, that he likes the doc and staff and that he is able to be in this clinical trial. All these are positives!!! The Lord is with you and is watching over you.
"Don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you...I am the Lord your God, who holds your right hand, and I tell you, Don't be afraid. I will help you." Isaiah 41:10, 13
Grateful that you have faith in HIM, for how you are keeping a positive attitude, and for keeping us posted!
Praying for you throughout the days and nights,
Love,

Awwwwww!!! Keeping you in our thoughts everyday, all day. Like Tim said, "They have been through quite the month....but they're strong and will stay strong to get through it all."
Love you!

KurtOwen is the man!
You might wonder why I always merge his first and last names Jennifer. Every time I would walk by his desk, I would yell at the top of my lungs (in a wide-open office space) KurtOwen!!!!, as if it were one word.
I can picture Kurt sticking himself almost precisely as you described. He is indeed a stud! Tell him I won't hold it against him that his Browns beat my Bengals. Everyone is beating them this year, so I guess I'll just have to get used to it...again.
Also tell him to call me if his treatments get to him. I am proof that you can survive through prayer, faith, and following the good doctors' plans.
Warm regards
Bill

I was on lovenox and coumadin for six weeks after a heart anomaly many months ago. The treatment is tolerable... Don't mind the bruising, it goes away :)
