So we've got one day of chemo down, one unscheduled day to go. We had a little excitement this morning that pushed back the schedule for the rest of the day. I had a moderate reaction to the cetuximab when they pushed it in for the first time. I got very hot and short of breath and got the nurses all fired up. They stopped the infusion, gave me some oxygen, and pumped me full of benadryl and steroids and after a minute or two I was back to normal. I rested for about another half hour and they restarted the infusion at half the original rate. That meant that the original 2 hour infusion became a 4 hour infusion. With the slower rate (and some cold washcloths on my forehead and neck) I was able to get the full dose in.
The flipside to the slower rate means that I'm heading back up tomorrow morning to finish out the regimen. The rest of the drugs also needed about 3 hours total, and we ran out of time in the day.
It's a huge load off our backs to finally have some medicine in my body. I hadn't realized how much that'd been weighing on my mind until tonight. It's such a relief!!
Thank you all again for all your prayers and support! It means so much to us!
More tomorrow...

We are all so thankful to get you thru today..Hopefully tomorrow will go more smoothly and you will eventually settle into a routine of reading all those books you have lined up while you get those "wellness drips" :O) . . I agree that it really is helpful to get these blogs and be aware of how you are doing. Keep the faith.
Love, Grannie C & Grandpa Vic
I can't thank you enough for keeping the blogs up to date. crazy me, i check them about 3-4 times a day!!! oh i can't imagine how relieved you are to start the actual process....it's a relief for me!! sorry to hear about the reaction - hopefully it was just a one time thing. it's not fun to be on steroids and benadryl and all that....get lots of rest and i hope to see you very soon. love you lots!!!
SWEEEET!! Glad, the treatments are rolling along now for you. You're going to be able to kick some serious butt if they keep giving you those steroids! Ha, just kidding man. Stay strong Kurt!
