So, we need a little help. The trial drug - erbitux- causes a rash and
drys out skin badly. That has been the worst of the side effects so
far, and we have to find better ways of managing it. We need a really
good moisturizing lotion - if you have recommendations, please post!

Jen, I don't know of anything other than Aveeno (which I but at Costco in the big double packs). But I was doing a little online search and I found a lotion called Skinny Dip candles. They're made of things like soy, avocado oil and shea butter. And they have one in unscented. Go to skinnydipcandles.com and see what you think. I'm going to Trader Joe's later this morning - I'll nose around there. hum
The dry air from the cold weather probably doesn't help either. I get nose bleeds from it. A humidifier might help a little too. (Or leave a pan of water on the radiator)
J - I was just talking to Stacey the trainer (she always asks about you guys) and she said to get Cetaphil cream - not the lotion, the cream. Both her kids has eczema and the dermotologist said it's the best for really dry, itchy skin problems.
(Matt - I've heard that a little Neosporin in your nose (I know it sounds kind of gross) will prevent those cold dry air nosebleeds.)
Good idea. Thanks! :)
I was just going to tell you, jen to try an eczema lotion or cream... vicki and I are on the same wave length.
I agree with Vicki's trainer - - as dry as the Las Vegas air is - it is the one cream that does seem to help. and Costco sells it in big double packages.
Hey Guys, we use this aloe recovery gel from www.ecolani.com. In fact, I just ordered you a bottle and it should be there in a few days. Give it a try. It works great for rashes and sunburns. It's 100% all natural with aloe and no chemicals. It goes on so COOL and feels amazing when you apply it to your skin. Then, the aloe usually heals the skin right up. We have aloe growing in the wild here. Maybe if you can get an aloe house plant and then just break off a piece of the plant as needed, and apply the aloe juice right on, that works great too. But this Recovery Gel has worked great on Kona's sensitive skin rashes he gets from time to time.
Hi Kurt & Jen - I also have a good suggestion. Two dermatologists have told me that plain old petroleum jelly (I use the Vaseline brand) works well & is less expensive than Bacitracin; I've used that on my kids rashes; Brooks had a bout with eczema and I used that on him. There is a cortizone cream called CLODERM, that is good, too. If these other recommendations don't work , I bet your doctor can prescribe something. I hope you took the drugs well yesterday and you have no reactions or side effects to them. Kurt, keep filling your mind and spirit with the WORD. Re-read the books on faith and Favor, etc. Bible says that the hills, mountains and streams will pass away, but the WORD REMAINS, with it's power and life, too!
Always in prayer for you; Love, G'ma D
P.S. That Cloderm is a prescription drug. Already packaged, but has to come from a DR. Have a great weekend.
After exhaustive research, I have a few recommendations based on the advice of real cow farmers that have witnessed real chapped udders:
Tried and true since 1899, Bag Balm was actually designed for animals but is clearly safe for human use based on the fact that real people touch it every day, and use it for its almost-intended purpose. It also has the benefit of coming in containers up to five gallons. Check it out at: http://www.bagbalm.com/
If you prefer a product that is actually made for humans, check out Udderly Smooth Udder Cream at http://www.uddercream.com/. It looks like you can grab some at Trader Joe's.
My other advice: Try what everybody else has said, just don't discount the dairy farmer.
Hope that helps.
BMR.
Bag Balm. It's the best. No kidding.
BMR is right. Absolutely amazing what a bit of bag balm will do on a dry chapped udder in this country, and think of the abuse it takes.

We use something called Aquaphor on our kids when they get really dry/scaly skin. Seems to work well. Best wishes from Ohio!!
This posts are so wonderful -- we have been trying many of them already. I am happy to report that we seem to be getting a handle on the rash a little. I think we have purchased every lotion known to mankind!
Jay, looking forward to the aloe gel. Thank you all for your help!!
