Finally - a doc that gets us!

An actual quote from our visit today: "the odds for any of these treatments aren't great, but they're the chance you have and you've got to take it." F'n A! That's what we've been trying to find. So in honor of that - here's one of my new favorite movie quotes:

Dr. Avital was great - told us what the story was with no BS but put forward a possible path to the cure. He blew us away with his honest approach and his aggressiveness. He basically said that at this point, my liver is still inoperable since the disease is spread throughout it. He laid out a plan using targeted liver therapies - either chemoembolization or Yttrium90 embolization - in conjunction with systemic chemotherapy. The targeted therapy will knock out enough of the liver tumors to go back in and cut out what's left, then we can go in and cut out anything else that rears its ugly head. He told us unequivocally to go pursue the Yttrium90 treatment at Maryland, and to possibly do it in conjunction with embolization.

So that's what it is. We will definitely keep in touch with Dr. Avital and his crew.

This week's treatment hasn't been too bad at all. I'm heading out for a day on the bay tomorrow, which should be excellent! I think my attitude toward the chemo has changed a bit from all the consultations we've had in the past few weeks. I had hoped to be done with it and onto something more now, but that's obviously not in the cards. Absent that, it's time to suck it up and gut out some more treatment. Today's visit was very good. We're both glad to have met a doctor - a surgeon no less - who is aggressive and is willing to look past the "standard of care" and toward more experimental therapies. Good stuff!

Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers! Please keep them coming - especially for wisdom in this time of transition. Stay tuned for what should be some interesting months coming up!

Kurt & Jennifer -
Keep on keeping on; Seems I just say the same things over & over. The Word does say that "w/out Faith it's IMpossible to please God." You have taken that Faith and run with it. Also says that Faith comes by Hearing & Hearing the Word, I think that means hearing it over and over again. I know I need to keep reading and hearing what God says, over and over again.I have been praying and reading "Called to Battle; Destined to Win" again this week. I suggest, to re-enforce your thinking and your resolve, that you read C. 12, "God Will be Everything You Need" again, even if you've read it several times before. We need to keep putting in the WORD & putting it in, until, I think, that we believe the WORD over anything else, Anything, I say. If God Says It, that settles it! Read the chapter, I think I will go and read it again right now -- I certainly will pray for you to have God's WISDOM, James 1:5 says
that HE will give wisdom liberally & generously, if we ask.
Please continue to keep us informed. Let God Bless You!
Love & Prayers,
G'ma D

Ditto to all the nice comments you got after your recent more positive news from your doctors. Was kind of bracing for "status quo" or minimual improvement, so we're happy and relieved to hear the good results.
I remember your determination and persistence as you learned to water ski and wake board, etc and see that you are still using those qualities to get the best health care.
Some days the bad overshadows the good, but I'm sure you appreciate the little good things in ways that often get taken for granted.
I read the following in a magazine as I waited at the dentists and thought it was nice enough to share.

All the good things are still yours to enjoy!
Laughs, hugs and good hair days. Blue skies, great friends and happy memories.
Unexpected joys, surprise blessings, smart solutions and something incredible: a brand new chance to make your dreams come true every single day. Grab it!

Continued good wishes and prayers.
