I am so excited about these new treatments!
OK, yes, I'm a little nervous...the nurses are telling us these chemos are pretty tough. They told us the same for FOLFOX, but they seem to be a little more attentive to side effects than before. That may just be because Kurt is off the clinical trial and fully dependent on Hopkins for care, rather than the trial protocols. We'll see. Kurt has had an amazingly positive attitude about the new drugs and potential side effects. The nurses say it is very likely that he will lose his hair on these drugs...I have been trying to persuade Kurt to do another video blog today to mark the change (help me out in the comments!).
But, even with potential side effects, I am still excited. I am very confident that these drugs are going to beat back these tumors. Everything just seems new and fresh -- a new attack! So, the first shot of irinotecan is starting to drip. All the pre-meds are different, the post-meds are different -- so much new to keep track of. Kurt has to get lots and lots of fluids for the irinotecan -- two full bags of fluids! But, he doesn't have to get all the benadryl, so he is awake and alert. Watching Price is Right, at the moment.
We will be laying low this weekend, seeing how Kurt handles these drugs. But -- no pump, no more rash, no more weekly treatment. Yay!

Thanks for the comments & pics, Jen.
Kurt,I am hoping that this new treatment is exactly what your body needs - that it knocks out those tumors and does what is intended; will not hurt any other part of your body and it will be a miraculous and thorough healing.
Holding you both up in prayer. IF you can, Kurt, "Be Still, and know that I AM GOD!", HE says! God is on your side -- you're on God's side -- God BLess!
Love and Prayers,
G'ma D
WISDOM & STRENGTH to ALL on your case!
Obviously, I vote for a video. In ninja voice of course.
Thinking of and praying for you guys every day. This is the treatment which will send the cancer back to the hell it came from.
ditto, sarah! thanks for the updates, jen! and yes, a video is necessary! ninja voice scares me a little, but we'll take it! i share your nervous excitement...this is what we've been waiting for, and what you two have been working for! now that it's here, it's a little frightening. just remember how many friends and family you have holding you up in prayer. whatever else you need, consider it done! love you both so much! /mom
