The path forward

Ok, here we go!

Met with Dr. D. today, and it looks like Kurt will be switching chemos. The last scan showed that the lymph nodes are getting a little bigger, so there is likely some chemo resistance building in the cancer cells. So Kurt is going to end the clinical trial, and switch to two drugs: irinotecan and cisplatin. The drugs are pretty rigorous...Kurt's nurse called it "bringing out the big guns"! He will start those on Friday.

Normally, this chemo regimen would be one treatment every three weeks (what a change from weekly), but because we will be doing the SIR-Spheres at the same time, Kurt will probably get chemo every four weeks. So we are looking at chemo this Friday, and hopefully the first SIR-Spheres in early November. Then two weeks off, chemo, two weeks off, SIR-Spheres, two weeks off, chemo.

The only wild card is this issue with Kurt's kidney. There is some blockage -- not cancer-related -- that needs to be addressed. Kurt's kidney functions are fine, but there is some issue. Getting that fixed shouldn't hold up any treatment, but we are waiting to hear from the urologist.

....wow, this is really a nerve-racking time. Exciting, but scary...the every Friday routine has a certain comfort to it. New drugs ... new side effects.. just lots of change. We are into a sort of unknown arena here, but both Kurt and I are very confident that this is the right approach at this time.

We have to get re-focused on diet and exercise, stress management, prayer...all those things that keep him strong for a very aggressive treatment. Time to double down!

Kurt/Jen-
Thanks so much for keeping us informed. When I read some of these technical things and that lingo, I am especially glad that you are so prompt in keeping us (me)in the loop. I think both of you are gifted writers. I thank God everyday for your keeping a positive attitude and a sharp sense of humor.
I can't think of one time in the life of JESUS that he was negative when asked a question. No, as Jerry Savelle said in his book, Jesus never said, "Sorry, Kurt, I just ran out of healing -- You'll have to get to the back of the line. Maybe when I get re-filled, there will be enough left for you!" PTL, No -- HE says -- Here, Kurt, take this healing. Be Filled & BELIEVE & RECEIVE!! He's just waiting on us to really trust HIM, so I lift you two up to the throne of grace (Favor) & thank Him for the complete manifestation of HIS TOUCH. Thank YOU JESUS!!!!
I am reminded of this song, "Only Believe, Only Believe,
All things are possible, Only Believe.
2nd verse === LORD, I Believe, Lord, I believe,
All things are possible, Lord, I believe.
3rd verse. LORD, I Receive,
Lord, I Receove.
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.
LORD, I RECEIVE!!!
That promise is so great -- Jesus says -- "I will never leave you or forsake YOU, KURT!!" PTL!! He is there to hold us up to our heavenly Father God & to comfort and lead us one step at a time!
I know what a fighter and winner you are, Kurt. I am so glad that you have had lots of experience in winning a lot of family table games, etc and what a fierce competitor you are. I know that with God's help, you will win this battle and this war!!
Remember, that you are "CALLED TO BATTLE, but DESTINED TO WIN!!!
YES, YES, YES!!!
My prayer is that God will SUPERNATURALLY lead you in this victory! Love and Prayers,
G'ma D
